Dr. Maury Hayashida is a board certified orthopedic physical therapist. He is the co-founder and partner of ArthroKinetic Institute (AKI), a research-grade human movement laboratory and treatment paradigm for injury prevention and athletic performance development.

Dr. Hayashida is also the owner and CEO of Hayashida & Associates Physical Therapy, Inc. since 2002. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Research Institute of Human Movement (RIHM), a non-profit organization producing research and awareness for movement health and human performance.

He is the inventor of the Segmental Motion And Regional Testing (S.M.A.R.T.)™ system, an injury prediction scale which has been adapted in several collegiate, professional and national teams. Dr. Hayashida has been an adjunct professor at Westmont College in the Kinesiology department since 2006 where he teaches Motor Behavior.

He is the USA National Men’s and Women’s Rehabilitation Coordinator and physical therapist, making regular visits to the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA for athlete assessments and touring with the men’s team internationally. Dr. Hayashida’s professional passion is the identification and treatment of predictors of athletic injury.

Evan is Co-Owner of ArthroKinetic Institute (AKI) and the founder of Axcel Strength & Performance as well as BizFit, a corporate athletics company.  He graduated from Westmont College with a BS in Kinesiology.

Evan is a passionate, devoted top level strength and conditioning coach who began his career in Chicago, IL in 2008 though he is now permanently in Santa Barbara, California.  Knowing what he wanted to do from a very young age, he has always been an active learner of his craft and strives for the maximum possible results.

Evan combines injury prevention techniques with strength and performance to bring the highest level of fitness and health. He has trained all levels of individuals from young teens to professional athletes which has allowed him to work across nearly every sport.

Lucas Miller

Lucas graduated from Westmont College in 2012 with a B.S. in Kinesiology. As a four year varsity basketball player, he developed a passion for understanding the underlying factors of sports performance. After experiencing several disappointing injuries throughout his career, Lucas felt inspired to help others facing the similar obstacles.

Upon graduating he became a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as a level one sport performance coach (SPC-L1) through USA Weightlifting. Over the years he has helped countless people achieve their goals as a personal trainer and former physical therapist aide.

Within the AKI team, Lucas is in charge of collecting valuable data using the lab’s equipment and technology. “One of the most important things I can do for clients is help them better understand how their bodies move and perform. AKI’s technology helps quantify movement and identify potential injury risk by providing insights that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I want everyone who walks through our doors to move and perform at their best.”

Tech Entrepreneur, Co-inventor of SweetSpot™

A graduate of UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), Eric’s experience as a tech entrepreneur and corporate sales adds an exciting dynamic to AKI’s team as AKI integrates wearable technology to the study of movement.

After graduating from UCSB, Eric moved to New York City for ten years where he developed his corporate sales skills in advertising and pharmaceuticals. As an account executive for BSA Advertising Eric successfully developed new corporate accounts such as Hertz, NJ Transit, Lucent Technologies and more. This success lead to a career in pharmaceutical sales within Eli Lilly’s neuroscience division. Developing and expanding market share within the extremely competitive market of mood stabilizers, Eric learned the importance of working with a driven and highly motivated team.

After a decade in New York City, Eric was recruited to Santa Barbara by Islands Publications to spearhead business development for one of Island’s luxury travel publications, Resorts & Great Hotels. As regional director for Asia and the Southwest US, Eric managed accounts and developed new business within the luxury travel industry.

As technology evolved Eric found his calling as a tech entrepreneur. As co-inventor of SweetSpot™ Eric helped develop a complex sensor platform that will help expand AKI’s study of movement and development of wearable technology.

Eric now resides in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife and two children.
